Britten’s work for solo guitar “Nocturnal” is rooted in Dowland’s wish; “Come, heavy sleep”. In this programme, Jesse Flowers and Julia Spies make the connection between these works deeply felt. Through Aribert Reimann’s settings for alto solo, Paul Celan’s poetry in “Eingedunkelt” washes up on “heartland, maybe”. The dreamlike impressionism of Verlaine and Debussy and the calm serenity of Schubert’s Goethe settings provide the programme with relief and glimmers of light.
„Full of feeling and fine nuances of expression, the singer brings the content to life. [...] Virtuosity, without particularly emphasising it, characterises [Jesse Flowers‘] playing“
„The audience's comments on the way out literally overflowed with enthusiasm: ,Fabulous, thrilling, beautiful, impressive, fantastic!‘“
